FREE Intro to Health Informatics - Module 1


Overview
This Module is the first of 5 in a course which offers an overview of health information technology and health information management systems. Throughout the course, we will focus on the role and responsibilities of entry-level health IT specialists in different phases of the health information management systems lifecycle. The curriculum is aligned to the new Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) certification administered by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. The CAHIMS certificate is designed for students without experience in IT and is designed to serve as a pathway into health IT careers.
 
Course Objectives
At the completion of Module 1, the student will be able to:
 
  • Understand the importance of the healthcare industry in the US economy and the role of financial management in healthcare.
  • Describe the revenue cycle and the billing process undertaken by different healthcare enterprises.
  • Define terms used in healthcare including clinician, patient, disease, and syndrome and in health professionals' education and training.
  • Describe the education, training, certification, licensure and roles of physicians including those in the healthcare professions.

Requirements for CE Credit

This module consists of video lectures and an online test assesment. You must score 80% or higher on the test to pass. You will be allowed 3 attempts to pass. 
  • If you do not pass the test in 3 attempts, you will NOT be issued CE credit.
  • You will also be required to give feedback on your experience through an activity evaluation the module.
  • CE credit for each module will be issued after you pass the test and complete the activity evaluation.
  • Internet connectivity is required for participation in this activity.
